- Nexuiz binds and settings
- Typically, this would involve helping them setup their weapon binds, and perhaps a few other communication binds. This is basically to give them an introduction to how binding keys in Nexuiz works and some things you can do with it.
- Adjustments to graphics settings, g_netfps and other settings to help improve their playing experience.
- Nex aim
- Start with explaining the importance of keeping your mouse movement smooth. Make sure they have a reasonable mouse sensitivity (typically lower) and that they have mouse acceleration turned off and the DPI of their mouse turned up as much as possible.
- Before every drill, have them spec you so you can demonstrate exactly how the drill will work
- First drill: Shooting a still target, like a column or an ammo pack, while sweeping back and forth, using mostly strafing with a touch of rotation left to right. Do not jump. Just move left to right. Key point: do not let your mouse crosshair drop. This is a common mistake that players make. If you drop the crosshair, then you need to compensate for that when you aim at the target. It's best to keep it at the same level as the target.
- Second drill: Shoot one target and then turn and quickly aim at another target (like another column) and then switch back. This is to get used to maintaining the smooth movement while switching targets.
- Third drill: Rotate around a target and keep your cursor on that target the whole time. Do not let the cursor leave the target. Toward the end, start varying your distance to the target, near and far.
- Fourth drill: Same as third drill, but keep switching between various targetes
- Fifth drill: Start adding in bunny hopping while shooting various still targets on the map. Rotate around objects as well as sweeping side to side while shooting.
- First partner drill: Pick a partner and begin partner drills Make sure to demonstrate between each drill. First partner drill is to have one player strafe side to side while the other player stands still and shoots them. Alternate every minute. Key point: Explain to them the technique of allowing the player to "run into" your mouse cursor instead of you following them with your cursor.
- Second partner drill: Both players strafe side-to-side. Alternate every minute. Key point: if you strafe in the same direction as the target player, then it is functionally the same as you having a still target, so timing your strafe with their strafe gives an aiming advantage.
- Third partner drill: Target player now starts to bunny hop while the attacking player stands still. Key point: There are two major points during the jump where the jumping player is vulnerable for getting shot. 1) When they are at the apex (top) of their jump, because they are still for a split second. If you shoot them at this point in their jump, it gives you an aiming advantage. 2) When they land. If you can predict where they land, then you can aim your cursor there and it gives you an advantage in hitting them.
- Fourth partner drill: Target player laser jumps continuously in one spot while the other player shoots them. The jumping player should keep some distance (not jump overtop the attacking player). Key point: This is similar to the bunny hopping drill, where you shoot the player at the top and bottom of their jump, but you have to adjust for more movement and high angle. It's helpful to follow the target with your mouse as they go travel up and down.
